Mō te tūranga - About the role
As Head of Asset Allocation within our Investment Management team, you’ll be at the heart of shaping ANZI’s investment outcomes. This is a pivotal leadership role where you’ll help deliver investment excellence for our customers, aligned with our growth strategy and our regulatory obligation to prioritise strong customer outcomes.
You’ll own the strategic design and total portfolio management of ANZI’s diversified portfolios, setting the long-term direction through Strategic Asset Allocation (SAA) and actively enhancing outcomes through Dynamic Asset Allocation (DAA), risk budgeting, and the ongoing dynamic management of these settings. Your decisions will directly influence portfolio resilience, performance, and the consistency of risk-adjusted returns across market cycles.
Reporting to the Chief Investment Officer, you are a senior member of both the Investment Management Leadership Team (IMLT) and the Investment Committee. As an influential leader on the IMLT, you’ll collaborate closely with peers to drive a best-in-class total portfolio approach, challenge thinking, and help position ANZI as a market leader in disciplined, forward-looking investment management.

As Head of Asset Allocation, you’ll lead one of the most influential capabilities within Investment Management, combining strategic thinking, investment expertise, and people leadership to deliver strong, sustainable outcomes.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the strategic design and ongoing management of ANZI’s diversified portfolios, including Strategic and Dynamic Asset Allocation, risk budgeting, and portfolio construction, to deliver resilient outcomes across market cycles.
- Drive strong investment performance by ensuring portfolios meet stated investment objectives, achieve top‑half peer performance, and outperform benchmarks on a risk‑adjusted, net‑of‑fees basis.
- Translate customer needs, product objectives, and Board risk preferences into well‑diversified, cost‑effective portfolio solutions that balance risk, return, and long‑term sustainability.
- Provide high‑quality investment insight and thought leadership, contributing meaningfully to Investment Committee discussions and supporting robust decision‑making across portfolio management teams, senior leaders, and the Board.
- Build, lead, and retain a high‑performing Asset Allocation team through effective resourcing, capability development, and a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional excellence.
- Enhance the reputation of Investment Management by acting as a trusted investment authority with advisers, customer channels, and the broader investment community through clear communication and engaging presentations.
- Proactively manage investment, business, and regulatory risks, ensuring strong governance, full compliance with internal policies and external obligations, and positive outcomes from audit and assurance reviews.

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Deep expertise in funds management and portfolio construction, with a proven track record of shaping diversified portfolios and delivering strong risk‑adjusted outcomes across market cycles.
- Advanced quantitative capability, including strong financial modelling skills and the ability to apply statistical and analytical insight to inform asset allocation, risk management, and investment decision‑making.
- The ability to translate complex investment concepts into clear, compelling messages, with demonstrated experience influencing and engaging senior stakeholders, committees, Boards, and external audiences.
- Strong judgement and commercial acumen, enabling you to balance customer needs, Board preferences, regulatory obligations, and market opportunities within a total portfolio framework.
- Proven people leadership capability, with the ability to build, inspire, and develop a high‑performing team of subject matter experts who are committed to continuous improvement and professional excellence.
- A collaborative leadership style and the confidence to contribute at the most senior levels, constructively challenging thinking and helping to shape strategy, culture, and outcomes across Investment Management.
- A strong risk and governance mindset, with a demonstrated commitment to disciplined decision‑making, compliance with regulatory and internal frameworks, and maintaining the highest professional standards.
