Mō te tūranga - About the role

 

As a Fixed Interest Portfolio Manager in our Investment Management team, you’ll play a key role in our mission to deliver investment excellence and outstanding outcomes for our customers.

 

NZ Investments manages approximately NZ$35bn in funds under management, with around $14bn allocated to Fixed Income and Cash. In this role, you will be a core leader within the Fixed Interest discipline - driving strong risk‑adjusted returns relative to benchmarks and supporting our total portfolio approach across both active and passive strategies.

 

With a global fixed interest remit, you’ll work across domestic and international markets. You will invest directly in New Zealand and Australian fixed interest assets, while also contributing analysis and oversight across externally managed global mandates. You’ll have a strong understanding of benchmark replication techniques and be confident using a range of financial instruments, including derivatives.

In this role you will be responsible for:

 

  • Delivering investment returns exceeding benchmarks while managing tracking error and risk‑adjusted outcomes on a net‑of‑fees basis.
  • Providing cost‑effective access to Fixed Income assets and contributing meaningful insights to internal portfolio management teams and the Investment Committee.
  • Engaging with internal stakeholders, ANZ advisor networks, and the wider investment community to support financial literacy and deepen customer understanding.
  • Taking accountability for investment decisions, upholding high standards of professionalism, and fostering collaboration and capability across the Fixed Interest and Investment Management teams.
  • Maintaining robust risk and compliance discipline, ensuring adherence to ANZ governance, regulatory obligations, and all mandatory training.

Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?

 

To grow and be successful in the role, you will ideally bring the following:

 

  • Experience in funds management (around 7–10 years), ideally in fixed income, interest rates, credit, or balance sheet management.
  • Strong quantitative modelling and statistical analysis skills, with the ability to apply them to portfolio construction and decision-making.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated experience engaging effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • High integrity and a collaborative mindset, with enthusiasm for continuous improvement and strong team orientation.
  • People development capability, including the ability to mentor, support and grow junior team members.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification, such as Finance, Economics, Mathematics or Engineering.
  • A commitment to contributing to an inclusive, supportive team culture, and the ability to work effectively with diverse people and perspectives.
