Mō te tūranga - About the role

 

As a Commercial Relationship Manager within the Risk team, your role is critical in delivering positive outcomes for our commercial customers. You will be responsible for developing effective retention and exit strategies that create and preserve value for both our customers and ANZ, while ensuring that customer outcomes are achieved in a timely and respectful manner. The role also requires fostering strong working relationships with frontline colleagues, credit risk teams, and external intermediaries to enhance the reputation of Lending Services. In addition, you will work collaboratively with the broader team to meet regulatory reporting obligations and internal policy requirements.

You’ll be responsible for developing collaborative working relationships with customers who have an elevated risk profile. Your goal will be to support customers while working closely with frontline teams and promoting Lending Services as a valued business partner.  

 

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing accurate and timely support to commercial businesses in distress
  • Offering creative solutions to customers and proactively managing milestones toward resolution
  • Building strong relationships with frontline commercial bankers and providing guidance on higher‑risk customers
  • Contributing to process improvement initiatives and developing case studies for frontline teams, with opportunities to understand where lending goes wrong and apply learnings

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • Strong relationship management and negotiation skills when working with commercial customers
  • The ability to build rapport, handle difficult conversations with empathy, and remain calm and assured in stressful situations
  • Strong business acumen to understand customer strategies and provide creative solutions
  • Financial analysis and credit writing skills, along with an understanding of commercial credit decisioning
  • Experience in Insolvency, Legal, or Accountancy
