Mō te tūranga - About the role


As an Associate in Corporate R&A - Institutional, you will be responsible for the efficient and effective end-to-end credit approval, review and monitoring process. Additionally, you will be a key driver of appropriate operational risk, compliance risk, conduct risk and reputation risk behaviours. The role will also work closely with our Relationship Team to service and support our Corporate customers.

As an  Associate in Corporate R&A - Institutional, you will have the opportunity to: 

  • Support relationship teams in managing and growing institutional client relationships across products, divisions, and geographies.
  • Build and maintain strong engagement with customers to develop a deep understanding of their business objectives and banking needs.
  • Partner closely with internal stakeholders to deliver exceptional client service and enhance the overall customer experience.
  • Contribute high-quality counterparty, industry, and financial analysis that supports informed decision-making and client outcomes.
  • Assist in maintaining a well-managed portfolio by ensuring governance, compliance, and operational requirements are met.
  • Proactively identify, assess, and escalate risks while supporting strong first-line risk management practices.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Relationship, Risk, and Product teams to deliver integrated solutions for clients.
  • Clearly articulate key commercial drivers, risks, and mitigating factors in your analyses and recommendations.
  • Contribute to the achievement of business objectives through efficient processes, accurate reporting, and effective portfolio management.
  • Build strong stakeholder relationships and actively seek coaching, feedback, and development opportunities to support your professional growth.
  • Support a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement across the Corporate Relationships business.

 

This is an opportunity to develop broad commercial banking expertise while working with a diverse portfolio of institutional clients and contributing to meaningful customer and business outcomes.

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

  • Solid experience within the banking and financial services industry.
  • Strong credit analysis and financial assessment capabilities.
  • Experience in credit risk management, with exposure to broader risk disciplines viewed favourably.
  • Well-developed conceptual and critical thinking skills, with the ability to assess complex business and risk scenarios.
  • Sound understanding of credit, market, and operational risks across customers, products, and jurisdictions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify key risks, mitigants, and commercial drivers.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across teams.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach and commitment to delivering strong customer and business outcomes.
