About the Role


As a Senior Intelligence Analyst in our Financial Crime Threat Assessments team, you’ll play a key role in the identification and analysis of current and emerging financial crime threats, and development of recommendations to strengthen ANZ’s control environment and risk coverage. The role will be responsible for the collection, analysis and dissemination of financial crime intelligence to relevant stakeholders to ensure risk exposure to ANZ is minimised. This is achieved by interrogating source systems and using analytical tools and intelligence analysis techniques to test and validate intelligence hypotheses, identify leading indicators, assessing ANZ’s exposure - through its customers, products, channels and jurisdictions it is dealing with - to the relevant financial crime threats, and providing recommendations for effective monitoring and internal controls enhancements.

What will your day look like?

As a Senior Intelligence Analyst, you will be accountable for:

  • Identifying opportunities for the business to minimise losses that were the result of breaches of policy or unlawful acts by customers and ANZ employees.
  • Identifying risk and control deficiencies and make recommendations to mitigate financial crime risk to the Business.
  • Conducting analysis of customers suspected of financial crime and disseminate findings to Compliance and Operational stakeholders. Findings also disseminated to in-country CEOs and CROs for extreme risk matters.
  • Understanding the key financial risks faced by ANZ (Money Laundering, Fraud, Terrorist financing, identification of politically exposed persons etc).
  • Engaging with Law Enforcement and Regulators through the Fintel Alliance, MOUs and source intelligence where applicable and within regulatory guidelines.
  • Reporting and advising on financial crime matters to stakeholders to ensure that they are informed and can make appropriate decisions.
  • Accessing data warehouses to provide summary information on ANZ customer connections (for example FCDR, Teradata).
  • Interrogating source systems from across AU/NZ/Asia/Pacific (including for example CAP, Systematics, Merva, Finacle, MidANZ) to locate extra details as required
  • Contributing to the knowledge sharing among Financial Crime teams, to continually raise the quality of intelligence sources (both within Australia and globally)
  • Alignment and adherence with ANZ Group governance policies, processes and standards and with external regulatory requirements.
  • Managing risks through Financial Crime processes

  • Advanced critical thinking and sound decision-making capabilities
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Proficiency in database querying and analysis (e.g., SAS, SQL)
